London Array Limited is a consortium of world-leading renewable energy companies: E.ON, DONG Energy and Masdar – and La Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (Caisse).
Siemens Power Transmission & Distribution (STDL) assembled a total of 175 offshore wind turbines in the outer Thames estuary to realize the world’s largest offshore wind power project. With a capacity of 1000 MW, it generates enough energy to power more than 500,000 homes while reducing harmful CO2 emissions by over 900,000 tons, the equivalent of removing 300,000 passenger cars from circulation.
The London Array offshore is the largest project of its kind in the world. At a total project cost of around £3bn, protecting the investment is critical and part of this is the provision of a reliable access control and CCTV system.
Outcome • Acting as a sub-contractor to Siemens, Vysiion (formerly RFL Communications) was awarded the contract to supply the fibre network infrastructure, access control, fire monitoring and CCTV system for the offshore and onshore substations. • The system design and technology selected had to be fit for purpose, with the outdoor cameras operating in harsh environmental conditions (i.e gale force winds, potential for icing, and immersion in corrosive sea water). • All work was completed to a high standard, ensuring the reliability and correct operation of all of the system components. Vysiion, using a number of strategic supplier relationships, their in-house skills, and H&S competencies, completed the full design, implementation and have since supplied on-going system support.

• Integration of 36 outdoor and 14 indoor cameras deployed across 2 offshore platforms and 1 onshore substation
• Design, supply, installation & commissioning of cameras, network infrastructure, control room equipment and digital storage (50 rugged cameras -36 rugged switches 10 fibre optic receivers -3 flat screen displays -3 video servers -Over 2km of cabling)
• Deployed over 3 sites with local and remote camera view/control
