The Forestry Commission is the government department responsible for protecting, expanding and promoting the sustainable management of woodlands across England and Scotland.
In November 2017 new arrangements were announced for the governance and management of the Forestry Commission. The Forestry Commission will be retained in England and will continue to manage our public forests for public benefit – including supply of timber, public access, and the environment.
Forestry England wanted to use these changes as an opportunity to embrace more flexible ways of working and saw this as the foundation to enable the use of more technologies and applications across its highly mobile workforce. The agency chose to use the government’s G Cloud framework and engaged with different suppliers to discuss the ideal solution and the most efficient way of achieving this goal.
Vysiion’s ‘Device as a Service’ offering on G-Cloud 9 in conjunction with their skills and experience in UK public sector met the desired requirements for Forestry England and the contract was awarded to Vysiion in September 2017. Vysiion’s tender submission demonstrated an understanding of the demographics across Forestry England’s different sites and in designing the proposed solution took on board the complexities of providing a service that is suitable for all of Forestry England’s staff.
The deliverables and scope of the contract include:
Design, provision and set-up of the core Microsoft Cloud solution
- Migration of users into O365 and Azure active directory
- Production of all associated documentation and procedures
- Provision of the ongoing End User Compute support service – with Forestry England’s Service Desk providing the 1st line support
- Provision of the associated monitoring and back-up services
Vysiion’s Service Desk provides a single point of contact for Forestry England’s Service Desk to escalate relevant calls to Vysiion to provide 2nd and 3rd line support.
Vysiion has built, tested and implemented a Cloud based solution for Forestry England. This solution maximises the use of Microsoft technologies such as Azure and Intune to deliver a secure desktop and mobile device service to Forestry England’s 1200 users, across its 70 sites.
This has provided the foundation for future implementation of Microsoft O365 applications across Forestry England’s workforce.
